How my journey began
Inemesit Edet, Founder & CEO, Smart eBill Team
Inemesit Edet, a native of Washington DC, began her career in the legal eBilling world after being recruited by a prominent IP law firm as their first eBilling Coordinator. In this role, Inemesit gained extensive knowledge of eBilling while also successfully hiring and training several staff members with no prior eBilling experience. She created and wrote a custom eBill Manual and tracking system for the firm, which is still in use by current employees today.
Her exceptional work in reducing outstanding eBilling AR over six months old to under $250,000 earned her accolades and set the foundation for her ongoing passion for eBilling. Recognizing the growing need for specialized expertise in legal financial systems, Inemesit took on a role as eBilling Administrator at a general practice law firm with a heavy concentration in IP. There, she managed all aspects of eBilling functions, including training large groups of timekeepers and professional staff, reviewing and implementing billing guidelines, and resolving billing appeals. During this time, she identified a significant need for a dedicated organization focused on eBilling functions and resolutions.
As technology advanced, Inemesit expanded her focus to include the use of AI in optimizing legal financial systems. With her deep understanding of eBilling, she recognized how AI could enhance billing accuracy, cost analysis, and overall financial management for legal teams. This focus on AI helped shape Smart eBill Team and expand its range of consulting services, enabling the firm to offer cutting-edge solutions that optimize pricing, billing processes, and financial analytics. Her expertise in AI-enabled financial systems has positioned her as a trusted advisor for improving operational efficiencies, streamlining eBilling workflows, and ensuring greater transparency and accountability in legal financial practices.
In addition to her work with Smart eBill Team, Inemesit serves on the board of the LEDES Oversight Committee, where she contributes to the development of global legal billing standards, including the Uniform Task-Based Management System (UTBMS).
